Is President Obama the first U.S. President to be branded a techno-snob? Recent news seems to indicate so. After fighting to carry a specially-secure Blackberry, (granted not the latest model) the President has expressed further frustration with the technology available to him.
While speaking at a fundraiser in Chicago this week, Obama lamented that “when it comes to technology, we are like 30 years behind.” His pre-presidency expectations of “really cool phones and stuff” seem to be unfulfilled. He continued, “I’m the president of the United States. Where’s the fancy buttons and stuff and the big screen comes up? It doesn’t happen.”
Somehow I doubt that President Obama is using the TI-99/4A featured in the vintage ad below. That system came out in June 1981…nearly 30 years to the month.
