Marketplace Rose-Colored GlassesIs the Windows Mobile Phone blog just a little too “culture of praise” in their recent article celebrating 10,000 apps on the Marketplace? Author Michael Stroh opines, “10,000. Has a sweet ring, doesn’t it?” in the opening line of the article. He goes on to note that while recent news has not been positive and not all of the apps are winners, the 10k app mark is one to be praised due to the fervent pace at which apps are being created.

The blog’s commentators are not as enthusiastic. A snarky comment from user TwiceBitten sums up the tone in saying, “Yeah, the app developers are really stepping up and doing their part to try and make WP7 a success. I wish Microsoft would do the same with the OS.” A related article on Business Insider also featured the below chart further illustrating how 10,000 apps is a drop in the bucket in the overall scheme of things.

It seems like Microsoft is trying to squeeze the proverbial water from the rock in trying to drum up excitement and praise for a product that consumers seem to have some serious concerns about. And, while 10k apps is a good jump start, Microsoft will have a long road ahead encouraging mobile developers to view their platform as a legitimate contender in the market.
